Video Production: Understanding the 7 Key Processes

Traditional marketing methods are considered “dead”? Indeed, in today’s digital era, the appeal of graphic design and text is diminishing. With the ever-changing market landscape, video marketing has become increasingly important. If businesses want to stay ahead of the curve, utilizing videos for promotion and advertising is undoubtedly the best choice!

The 7 Key Processes of Video Production

To outsiders, video production may seem vague and simple – just use a camera to shoot, right? However, in a world where everyone can shoot videos with their smartphones, video production is not as straightforward as it appears. From pre-production to post-production, understanding the ins and outs of the video production industry can be made easier by referring to VM’s video production process.

Process 1: Understanding Client Requirements

When faced with client inquiries, VM’s first step is to hold a kick-off meeting to understand the client’s objectives for the video production. Once the video’s purpose is clear, initial quotations can be provided based on the client’s requirements, video type, production budget, etc. Once the contract is signed and confirmed, the video production project can commence.

Process 2: Pre-production Preparation

After understanding the client’s needs, the production team will develop an outline, script, and create storyboards based on the client’s requirements. This helps in conceptualizing and organizing the elements and sequence of the story, facilitating the production process.

Process 3: Shooting Preparation

Once the script is confirmed by the client, the production team will find suitable shooting locations, set up art props, conduct actor auditions, determine shooting dates, and plan the shooting schedule accordingly.

Process 4: Video Shooting

The production team will arrange the necessary photography equipment, lighting props, makeup for actors, etc., and carry out the shooting based on the finalized script. It’s worth noting that the director may change the shooting order (known as “out of sequence shooting”) based on scenes or on-site conditions, but all the content will be captured in the end.

Process 5: Video Editing and Effects

After completing all the shooting, the next step is to perform initial editing, basic color correction, add basic music and sound effects according to the script. The production team will then deliver the first cut of the video (First Cut) for the client’s review and feedback to ensure the content is accurate.

Process 6: Post-production

Upon receiving the client’s confirmation of the video content, the production team will make necessary modifications, perform audio mixing, color grading, add special effects, music, voiceovers (VO), subtitles, etc.

Process 7: Video Export and Delivery

The final and most crucial step is to export the video in the appropriate format based on the client’s chosen platform. This allows them to promote it to the target audience and viewers via the internet or other platforms.
