Video Objective

This video is a promotional piece created by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) to showcase its Student Development Services. The aim is to vividly present to prospective students and the general public the vibrant, multicultural, and excellent educational environment at CityU. It seeks to inspire students’ anticipation and confidence in university life. The content focuses on students’ growth experiences both on and off campus, including cross-cultural exchanges, overseas internships, leadership training, service learning, and a rich scholarship scheme. Through these elements, the video emphasizes how CityU supports students’ holistic development, enhances their global competitiveness and employability, and helps lay a solid foundation for their future success.

Challenges in Creating the Video

Common challenges encountered in producing such a promotional video include:

  • Large and Diverse Information
CityU’s student development services cover a wide range, so effectively delivering multiple messages within a short three-minute video is difficult. The content needs to cover academics, cultural exchange, internships, leadership, scholarships, etc., without making the message too scattered or hard to understand.
  • Showing the Authentic Campus Atmosphere and International Vision
Campus life is colorful and diverse. Capturing authentic, engaging scenes of students actively participating in activities and multicultural interactions in a visually appealing and convincing way requires both technical skill and creativity.
  • Attracting Young Audience Attention
Contemporary young viewers expect fast-paced videos with vivid visuals and storytelling. Designing an opening that captures attention immediately and maintaining interest within limited time is a challenge in content planning and visual presentation.
  • Linking Student Development Services to Personal Growth
Abstract service content must be made concrete, allowing viewers to feel how these services contribute to students’ growth and progress.

Solutions

To address these challenges, the production team adopted the following strategies:

  • Clear Core Theme and Structured Video
The video centers on “student multi-dimensional development and enhancement of international competitiveness,” with a detailed script dividing the content into five parts: campus culture, multicultural exchange, leadership training, career preparation, and scholarships. Each segment features real student participation scenes with guiding narration, making the information concise and well-organized.
  • Use of Real Student Stories and Multicultural Presentation
The video focuses on current students’ personal experiences, capturing lively footage of their involvement in cultural exchanges, overseas internships, and leadership training. This approach greatly enhances authenticity and emotional impact, avoiding dry information dumping.
  • Visually Engaging and Dynamic Rhythm for Young Viewers
The director uses fast editing combined with dynamic background music, vibrant colors, and lively camera movements to immediately catch attention. The narration tone is friendly and natural, creating a relaxed atmosphere that resonates with young audiences.
  • Demonstrating Personal Development Tools
The video showcases a personal development platform where students can track their participation in activities and workshops, which helps in planning their future growth. This makes a practical connection to the audience’s expectations of an ideal campus life.
  • Focus on Quality and Professional Post-production
The team employed professional filming techniques and editing to ensure high-quality visuals and sound, with attention to detail that enhances the overall competitiveness of the video in the digital media environment.
