Video Introduction

This video centers on the Grey Water Recycling initiative at the Anderton Road site, presenting the concept and practice of grey water cycling through a vivid narrative. The program aims to reduce dependence on mains water while lowering wastewater discharges that affect waterways and ecosystems, and it advocates for government policies to ensure long-term water resource sustainability and environmental protection. The film showcases the practical implementation of grey water reuse, with a centralized grey water treatment system at its core, including pumping and distribution networks and pipelines delivering recycled water to users for toilet flushing, illustrating how a centralized reuse system can be integrated into urban development.

Video Purpose

The film aims to raise awareness in Hong Kong communities about grey water reuse and to explain government efforts and results in promoting grey water reuse across facilities, contributing to sustainable development and the preservation of water resources. Through an accessible presentation, it helps the public understand the benefits and long-term value of grey water reuse and increases public participation and support.

Challenges

The main challenge in production is how to daily-ize and humanize the concept so audiences can understand and accept the plan through concrete cases and practical applications. At the same time, it’s important to establish emotional connections, making everyday life scenarios a bridge to understanding the long-term importance of the project, and to convey background, goals, and operations clearly within a limited runtime while maintaining readability and engagement.

Solutions

The solution emphasizes simplification and everyday framing: a three-episode, 3-minute-per-episode series titled “3-Minute Engineering,” introducing the plan from an engineering perspective while employing performative, theatrical storytelling to increase interest and understandability. It also highlights content integration through concise points and everyday dialogue to present the project background, goals, and operations, thereby boosting resonance. Further, it strengthens promotional and educational functions by producing a public-facing video to raise awareness and understanding of grey water reuse and facilitate broad dissemination of the message. It includes case studies by interviewing participants to share experiences and benefits, encouraging broader participation and addressing concerns. Finally, it provides technical and operational support, clarifying the necessary technology and facilities to ensure participants can implement grey water reuse smoothly.

Contributions

Through the above approach, the video effectively conveys the goals of the grey water reuse project, reduces demand on freshwater resources, and decreases wastewater discharges, aligning with environmental protection and sustainable development policies. It also enhances public awareness and support for the program, further boosting environmental protection consciousness and contributing to a sustainable future for society.
