Video Introduction

This film centers on the Andaton Road Grey Water Reuse plan, presenting the concept and practice of grey water cycling with an emphasis on people-centered thinking and humanized presentation. The core objective of the project is to reduce dependence on mains water while decreasing wastewater discharges to protect waterways and ecosystems, and to promote government policies that ensure long-term water resource sustainability and environmental protection. The documentary uses real-world implementation as evidence, focusing on the integrated operation of the centralized grey water treatment system, including pumping and distribution facilities, distribution reservoirs, and a network delivering recycled water to users for toilet flushing. Through concrete cases, it illustrates how a centralized reuse system can be integrated into urban development in a human-friendly way, allowing the public to feel the tangible environmental benefits in daily life.

Video Purpose

The film aims to be people-centered by raising awareness in Hong Kong communities about grey water reuse, explaining government efforts and results across facilities, and promoting sustainable development and water resource preservation. Through accessible and lifestyle-aligned presentation, it helps the public understand the benefits and long-term value of grey water reuse, further increasing public participation and support, and emphasizing how environmental choices in daily life collectively advance society.

Challenges

The main challenge in production is to present concepts in language and scenarios that are easily understood by the public, making them everyday and humanized, while highlighting empathetic details and care. It is important to build emotional connections, using everyday life scenes as a bridge to understanding the long-term importance of the project, and to clearly convey background, goals, and operations within a limited runtime while maintaining readability, approachability, and appeal, so that environmental protection ideas become everyday choices.

Solutions

The core of the solution is to use a simplified and everyday framing: a three-episode series, each about 3 minutes, titled “3-Minute Engineering,” introducing the plan from an engineering perspective while employing performative, theatrical storytelling to boost interest and give it a human touch. Next, integrate key points with everyday dialogue and scenes to present project background, goals, and operations, enhancing resonance and participation. Additionally, strengthen promotional and educational functions by producing a public-facing video that raises awareness and understanding of grey water reuse, facilitating broad dissemination and anchoring environmental values as a core driver for public resource-conscious behavior.

Contributions

Through the above approach, the video effectively communicates the goals of the grey water reuse project, reduces demand on freshwater resources, and decreases wastewater discharges, aligning with environmental protection and sustainable development policies. It also centers the public, enhancing awareness and support, strengthening environmental protection consciousness, and contributing to the society’s sustainable development.
