Purpose

The purpose of this initiative is to vividly present the “Grey Water Recycling” program. The main goal is to reduce the demand for tap water and decrease wastewater discharge, thereby lessening the impact on aquatic and ecological environments. We aim to promote this policy to ensure the long-term sustainability of water resources and environmental protection.

The video showcases the implementation of the “Grey Water Recycling” program, with the Anderson Road Quarry site development project serving as a prime example. In this project, we are constructing a central grey water recycling system to treat residential grey water for toilet flushing purposes. This system includes a grey water treatment plant, associated pumping systems, a distribution reservoir, and pipelines to convey grey water to customers.

Through the video, we aim to enhance the Hong Kong community’s awareness of grey water recycling and allow the public to better understand the government’s efforts to implement “Grey Water Recycling” in various facilities. This promotes sustainable development and protects our environment.

Challenges

The biggest challenge in producing the video is how to integrate this concept into everyday life in a relatable way. We need to find specific cases and practical applications to help people understand and embrace this plan more easily. By linking it to everyday life, we highlight the importance of this plan for the sustainability of water resources and environmental protection.

Solutions

• Simplification and Relatability: Presented in a series of three “3-Minute Engineering” episodes, the plan and information about “Grey Water Recycling” are introduced from an engineering perspective, combined with theatrical performances by actors to make the message engaging and easy to understand.
• Highlighting Key Points and Content Integration: Using relatable dialogues and interactive performances to spark audience interest and resonance, introducing different aspects such as the background, objectives, and operational execution of the plan.
• Promotion and Education: By filming a video to convey the benefits of grey water recycling to the public, we increase awareness and understanding of the plan, making the information more easily disseminated.
• Case Sharing: We interview participants of the grey water recycling program, sharing their implementation experiences and benefits, which encourages more people to join and alleviates concerns about grey water.
• Technical Support: Grey water treatment and recycling require appropriate technology and facilities, so the plan provides necessary technical support to ensure participants can easily implement the grey water recycling program.

Contribution

Through these solutions, we successfully communicate the objectives of the grey water recycling program, reducing the demand for freshwater resources, decreasing wastewater discharge, and promoting the comprehensive implementation of environmental protection policies. Additionally, the video helps enhance public awareness and support for the plan, thereby boosting societal environmental consciousness and contributing to sustainable development.
